GTA 6 is a 210 GB download on PS5, says an account that tracks PlayStation game sizes

Grand Theft Auto VI will be a 210 GB download on PlayStation 5, according to PlayStation Game Size, an account on X that posts how big PlayStation games are before they come out. Rockstar Games and Sony haven't confirmed the figure, and the PlayStation Store doesn't list a size.

If it holds, GTA 6 would take almost a third of the space that's free on an original PS5. Anyone planning to pre-load on Nov. 12 may need to clear room first.

What was posted

PlayStation Game Size posted the number at 1:11 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 27. Its post lists:

• Download size: 210 GB
• Edition: Standard, $79.99
• Pre-load: Nov. 12
• Release: Nov. 19, at midnight

The post doesn't say where the number comes from, and it shows no screenshot of store or system data; its only image is Rockstar's artwork of Jason and Lucia. Fan accounts that shared it said it came from Sony's database.

Everything else in the post matches what's confirmed. The PlayStation Store lists the Standard Edition at $79.99 in the US, Rockstar says digital pre-orders can pre-load from Nov. 12, and US store listings unlock the game at midnight Eastern on Nov. 19.

Who reported it

PlayStation Game Size has about 90,000 followers on X and lists download sizes among what it covers. GamesRadar described it as reasonably reliable on upcoming PlayStation games, and Game Rant said it has a track record of accurate PlayStation file sizes. Both stressed that the 210 GB figure is unconfirmed, as did Screen Rant and Notebookcheck, which reported it the same afternoon.

What isn't known yet

• Whether it's right. Rockstar hasn't published a size, and neither has Sony. When we checked the US PlayStation Store page on Oct. 27, it listed no download size.
• The Xbox size. No figure has surfaced for Xbox Series X|S. When we checked on Oct. 27, the Xbox Store's data for GTA 6 still showed an install size of about 345 MB, the same placeholder it has carried since early October and far too small to be the game.
• How much space it takes once installed. The post gives a download size. The space a game needs after installing can differ, as GamesRadar points out.
• A launch-day update. Rockstar hasn't said whether there will be one or how big it would be. Any update comes on top of the download.

How it compares

At 210 GB, GTA 6 would be twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, which asks for 105 GB of storage on Steam, and 60 GB more than Red Dead Redemption 2's 150 GB there. Those are PC figures, which can differ from console downloads, but they're the requirements Rockstar publishes for its two most recent games.

What it means for your console

On the original 825 GB PS5, about 667 GB is free for games, GamesRadar found, so 210 GB would take almost a third of it. Sony now sells the standard PS5 with a 1 TB drive and the PS5 Pro with 2 TB, though system software takes a share of each. Your PS5 shows what's free under Settings, then Storage.

Pre-load starts Nov. 12

Everyone has to download GTA 6, even with a boxed copy: the physical version is a download code in a box, with no disc, and the Rockstar Store says the code is there to support pre-load on Nov. 12.
