GTA 6 is rated M for Mature: the ESRB, PEGI and Australian age ratings
The ESRB has rated Grand Theft Auto VI M for Mature 17+. The UK PlayStation Store now shows PEGI 18 and PlayStation Australia lists R 18+, while Germany's and Japan's ratings are still pending.

The ESRB has rated Grand Theft Auto VI M for Mature 17+. The UK PlayStation Store now shows PEGI 18 without the word "Provisional," and PlayStation Australia lists the game as R 18+.
The ratings appeared between Oct. 1 and Oct. 3, ahead of GTA 6's Nov. 19 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Two are still pending: Germany's USK and Japan's CERO had not rated the game as of Oct. 8, according to PlayStation's pages in both countries.

ESRB: M for Mature 17+
The ESRB's entry lists Grand Theft Auto VI, from Rockstar Games, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. It says the game is "rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB" and gives seven content descriptors:
- Blood and Gore
- Intense Violence
- Mature Humor
- Nudity
- Strong Language
- Strong Sexual Content
- Use of Drugs and Alcohol
It also lists one interactive element: In-Game Purchases.
Rockstar now shows the rating too. The footer of its GTA 6 site carries the ESRB Mature badge, linked to esrb.org, with the same descriptors and "In-Game Purchases." The US PlayStation Store shows "ESRB Mature 17+" with the same descriptors, and the US Xbox Store shows "MATURE 17+." On Sept. 30, both stores still listed the rating as pending. Game Rant first reported the rating on Oct. 1.
PEGI 18 in the UK
The UK PlayStation Store now shows "PEGI 18." On Sept. 30 the same badge read "PEGI Provisional 18." The listing gives four descriptors, Extreme Violence, Sexual Content, Nudity and Drugs, plus In-Game Purchases.
PEGI's own site did not list the game on Oct. 7: a search on pegi.info returned no GTA 6 entry. Forbes reported on Oct. 3 that a detailed PEGI listing had appeared on pegi.info and was then removed. We have not seen that listing, so treat Forbes' account as a press report.
R 18+ in Australia
PlayStation Australia lists GTA 6 as "ACB R 18+," for Drug Use, High Impact Violence and Sex Scenes. The Classification Board's database lists Grand Theft Auto VI as R 18+ as well, classified Aug. 27, 2026, with the consumer advice "High impact violence, sex scenes and drug use," according to the board's search listing.
Earlier reports of an X 18+ rating in Australia were wrong. That label came from a PlayStation ad, and X 18+ is not a video game category in Australia.
Germany, Japan, South Korea and Brazil
Germany's PlayStation Store still shows "USK Rating Pending." PlayStation Japan shows "CERO Under Review." In South Korea, the PlayStation Store listing shows "GRAC 19+."
Brazil's two stores disagreed on Oct. 8. The Xbox Store there showed an "18 anos" rating (18 and over) for extreme violence, sexual content and legal drugs, while the PlayStation Store still showed "ClassInd Rating Pending." We have not checked the Brazilian rating board's own database.
What "In-Game Purchases" means
The ESRB defines the label this way: the game "Contains in-game offers to purchase digital goods or premiums with real world currency." It says that can include subscriptions, season passes and upgrades. The GTA 6 entry does not carry the ESRB's "Includes Random Items" tag.
Rockstar has not said what the label covers in GTA 6. At Take-Two's Sept. 17 stockholder meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick said "there's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch," according to Inven Global. He was talking about the launch. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has announced microtransactions for GTA 6.
The missing "Users Interact" label
The ESRB entry has no "Users Interact" element. Some outlets, including Tech Times, read that as confirmation that GTA 6 will have no online mode at launch. That is an outlet's inference, not an announcement from Rockstar, Take-Two or the ESRB.
Rockstar's official line remains "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience," and no online mode has been announced. Our online guide tracks what Rockstar and Take-Two have said.
Old rating text on Sony and Xbox pages
Two official pages still show outdated rating text. Sony's GTA 6 FAQ on playstation.com still says the age ratings "are unconfirmed," above a badge that now shows ESRB Mature 17+. Xbox's GTA 6 marketing page on xbox.com still shows "Rating Pending," while the Xbox Store listing shows Mature 17+. For the current rating, use esrb.org or the store listings.
GTA 6 launches Nov. 19, and digital pre-orders can pre-load from Nov. 12. Our release date guide has the full timeline, the ratings are on our confirmed-facts ledger, and Is it true? checks claims such as the Australian X 18+ rating.
