GTA 6 release date: Nov. 19, 2026, release time and delay history

Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games set that date on Nov. 6, 2025, and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, reaffirmed it on Aug. 7 and again at its Sept. 17 stockholder meeting.

Digital pre-orders can start downloading on Nov. 12. Rockstar has not announced a launch hour, but PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings show the game unlocking at midnight on Nov. 19, with one time zone per country: midnight Eastern for the whole US. The GTA 6 release date is Nov. 19, 2026

Rockstar announced the date in a Newswire post on Nov. 6, 2025: "Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026." When we checked on Oct. 8, 2026, the official site at rockstargames.com/VI still read "Coming November 19, 2026."

Has GTA 6 been delayed again?

No. Take-Two has listed Nov. 19 in every set of quarterly results since the second delay, including those on Feb. 3 and May 21, 2026. Two recent statements carry the most weight.

• Aug. 7 earnings. Take-Two's results for its fiscal first quarter of 2027 referred to "excitement around the November 19th launch" and listed the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The investor presentation published the same day cited a "high degree of confidence" in the date.
• Sept. 17 stockholder meeting. At the virtual annual meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick said the game launches Nov. 19 as a single-player title on PlayStation 5 and Xbox, according to reports from Inven Global and MarketBeat. Inven Global quoted him: "We're launching GTA 6 as a single player experience on two major platforms." The reaffirmation came at the meeting, not in a press release. Neither company has announced another delay, and claims of a slip to 2027 have no official source; our Is it true? page checks that one. The confirmed-facts ledger lists what Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed.

GTA 6 release time

Rockstar has not announced what time GTA 6 unlocks on Nov. 19. For now, the pointer is the store listings. Checked on Oct. 8, PlayStation Store listings and Microsoft Store listing data showed these unlock times, and the two stores agree wherever we checked both:

Each country's listing uses one time zone for the whole country. In the US, that moment is 9 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Whether players in other time zones unlock then or at their own midnight is an open question that only Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft can answer. Pre-load opens Nov. 12

Rockstar says players who pre-order digitally can begin pre-loading on Nov. 12. The PlayStation Store lists this as a "7-Day Pre-load." The physical version, a download code in a box with no disc, becomes available the same day. Rockstar has not announced a file size. The details are in our GTA 6 pre-load and Code in Box guide.

GTA 6 delay history

GTA 6 has been delayed twice. Rockstar first confirmed the game on Feb. 4, 2022, when it said active development on the next Grand Theft Auto was "well underway," and revealed it with Trailer 1 on Dec. 4, 2023. It gave a 2025 window, then moved the game to May 26, 2026, and then to Nov. 19, 2026.

Since the second delay, Rockstar has kept to the new date. Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, and the 26-minute video "An Extended Look" premiered Aug. 27, 2026. Every Rockstar video is collected on our trailers page.

Dates to know

Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only

GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Every Rockstar and Take-Two announcement names only those two. Our GTA 6 platforms guide goes through each console.

• Not on PS4. PlayStation's official GTA 6 page states: "The game is not playable on PlayStation 4." No Xbox One version has been announced either.
• No PC version announced. Take-Two's lineup tables list PC for other games but not for GTA 6. At the Sept. 17 meeting, Zelnick spoke about PC only in general terms, according to Inven Global, and on Oct. 6 Xbox's Matthew Ball wrote that the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC." • PS5 Pro. The PlayStation Store listing carries a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label but does not say what the enhancement is. Rockstar has not announced frame rate targets for any console.
