GTA 6 platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and where PS4, PC, Switch 2 and cross-play stand
GTA 6 launches Nov. 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Series S included. PlayStation rules out PS4, and no Xbox One, PC or Switch 2 version is announced. The boxed copy holds a code, not a disc.

Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on Nov. 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only platforms Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have named since the game was revealed, and "Xbox Series X|S" covers both the Series X and the Series S.
Everything else people ask about is either ruled out or not announced. PlayStation says the game will not be on PS4. No Xbox One, PC or Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced, there is no disc, and Rockstar calls GTA 6 a single-player experience.

Take-Two's latest quarterly results, published Aug. 7, list the game as "Grand Theft Auto VI PS5, Xbox Series X|S November 19, 2026." Rockstar's own announcements have named the same two consoles since Trailer 1 in December 2023. Our confirmed-facts ledger tracks each platform fact with its source, and our release date guide has the date's history.
PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro
GTA 6 is a PS5 game, and PlayStation's FAQ says it is released "for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on November 19, 2026." The PlayStation Store listing carries a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what the enhancement is.
Sony's GTA 6 page lists the PS5 features the game uses: Tempest 3D audio, fast loading from the console's SSD, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller, and the controller's built-in speaker. Rockstar's own marketing line, from the YouTube description of An Extended Look, is "Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PlayStation 5."
Xbox Series X and Series S
The Xbox Store lists GTA 6 for "XBOX Series X|S" and carries the "Optimized for XBOX Series X|S" badge. That makes the Series S a supported console, the same as the Series X.
What Rockstar has not said is how the game differs between consoles. No resolution or frame rate has been announced for the Series S, the Series X, the PS5 or the PS5 Pro. Headlines claiming Rockstar "confirmed" a frame rate trace back to a YouTuber's secondhand account, not to Rockstar.
Is GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One?
No PS4 version is coming, and PlayStation is direct about it. Its FAQ says GTA 6 "will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles" and "will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles." Our Is it true? page checks the claim.
Microsoft and Rockstar have not made the same kind of statement about the Xbox One, but no Xbox One version has been announced, and the Xbox Store lists only Xbox Series X|S under "Play with."
PC
No PC version of GTA 6 has been announced, and there is no PC release date. Take-Two's release lineup names PC for some of its other games but not for this one.
Two recent comments come closest. At Take-Two's Sept. 17 stockholder meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick said PC is becoming "more and more important," Inven Global reported, but he gave no plan for GTA 6 (our story on the meeting). And on Oct. 6, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball wrote that the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC" (our story). Our guide Is GTA 6 on PC? has the full picture.
Nintendo Switch 2
No Switch 2 version has been announced. Rockstar and Take-Two list the game only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Disc or download: Code in Box
There is no GTA 6 disc. The physical version is Code in Box: a download code inside a box, which Rockstar says "will be available starting November 12." The Rockstar Store puts it plainly: "A disc will not be included in the box."
Code in Box is for the Standard Edition only; the Ultimate Edition is digital only. Either way, you download the game. The Rockstar Store's FAQ says the boxed version needs an internet connection and a platform account, and that PlayStation codes are region-locked. Our pre-load and Code in Box guide covers the rest.
Does GTA 6 have cross-play?
No cross-play has been announced. GTA 6 is on two platforms, PlayStation and Xbox, but nothing announced so far connects them. Rockstar's pre-order announcement says "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience," the PlayStation Store lists "1 player," and the Xbox Store lists "Single player." PlayStation's FAQ answers the multiplayer question with the same sentence about a single-player experience.
No online mode has been announced either, and neither has cross-save or cross-progression, so moving a save between a PS5 and an Xbox is not a confirmed feature. See Does GTA 6 have online?
