Rockstar Games

Rockstar's promotion of Grand Theft Auto VI no longer stops at Miami. With the game three weeks away, GTA 6 ads have gone up in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Paris, from a hand-painted mural in Brooklyn to a giant building wrap on the Paris ring road.

Rockstar hasn't announced the campaign or said where it runs. What follows is what the companies involved, news sites and fans have reported, with who said what.

A hand-painted mural in Brooklyn

The biggest name behind the ads has confirmed its part. Colossal Media, the New York company known for hand-painted billboards, said in an Instagram post that it's painting for GTA 6, GTA BOOM reported. "Two decades later, we're back at it for GTA 6," the company wrote, recalling that its first campaign ever was for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in 2004.

The mural, of Jason and Lucia, is at Wythe Avenue and North 11th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, according to GTA BOOM, which notes that the same corner carried a Grand Theft Auto V mural in 2013. It's painted by hand, not printed.

A wrap on the Paris ring road

In early October a large GTA 6 wrap went up on a building beside the Paris ring road, near Porte de Bagnolet, GTA BOOM reported, citing the French fan site Rockstar Mag. Rockstar Mag puts it at 175 meters and calls it the biggest GTA 6 ad so far. That measurement hasn't been confirmed.

New York, Los Angeles and Chicago

VICE has collected other sightings that fans posted in mid-October:

  • Los Angeles: a large mural of Jason and Lucia on Hollywood Boulevard.
  • Chicago: a double-decker bus covered in GTA 6 artwork.
  • New York: large digital ads in Times Square and double-decker tour buses carrying GTA 6 ads.

We haven't been able to check these ourselves, and Rockstar hasn't confirmed them.

And in Miami

Rockstar's biggest push is still in the city that inspired Vice City. Its fake-brand billboards downtown include a cartoon ad "coming November 19 on Weazel." Rockstar is also paying for free Wynwood Walls entry for Miami-Dade residents and a free BAYO block party in Little Haiti on Nov. 22. The Kaseya Center adds Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell stands and the HEAT's Vice City night.

GTA 6 comes out Nov. 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our launch calendar has every confirmed date around it.
