Will Rockstar take down GTA 6 spoiler videos? Its video rules allow it, and they date from January 2025

Headlines say Rockstar confirmed it will remove GTA 6 spoiler videos. The rule is in its general video policy, last updated in January 2025: ending videos and cutscene edits can come down, playthroughs can stay.

Rockstar Games can have videos that show the ending of Grand Theft Auto VI taken down, and on Nov. 4 several outlets reported that Rockstar had confirmed it would. Rockstar hasn't said anything new. The rule comes from its general policy on posting footage of its games, which covers every Rockstar game and was last updated on Jan. 10, 2025, according to LibertyCity.net.

What the policy says still matters for GTA 6. Story footage can start spreading early: the game unlocks first in New Zealand, 18 hours before the US, and Rockstar hasn't said when reviews come out.

What can be taken down

Rockstar says it's happy for fans to upload their gameplay, and it lists examples of posts that would get a takedown notice. Under spoilers, it names:

  • The ending. A video showing how the game ends.
  • Cutscene edits. An edited combination of cutscenes or in-game plot dialogue.
  • Big story reveals. Any other major reveal in the story.

The policy also covers pre-release footage of any kind and videos that encourage cheating, TheGamer reported, and it says Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, can have its material taken down at any time.

What's allowed

Cutscenes can appear as part of a longer playthrough or a narrated Let's Play, the policy says, "but isolated videos of the game's cinematics will be removed." If you're not sure whether something you want to post counts as a spoiler, Rockstar asks you to email copyright@take2games.com first.

The guidelines apply to streams as well as uploads: Rockstar addresses them to anyone who posts or streams on video-sharing sites.

What isn't known

  • How Rockstar will enforce it. Rockstar hasn't said whether it will look for GTA 6 ending videos or wait for reports.
  • When it stops. None of the quoted rules has an end date, so they apply after launch as well as before.
  • Whether GTA 6 gets its own rules. Rockstar hasn't published any.

Pre-release footage is already a live issue. Take-Two has gone to court to identify the leaker behind August's gameplay videos, and that leaker has threatened to post a playable build. We don't describe or link to leaked material.

Keeping the story to yourself

Takedowns take time, so the safest way to avoid spoilers is not to go looking. On The Leonida, story spoilers stay blurred until you choose to see them, and you can switch that in Your Leonida. Our story on the GTA 6 review embargo has what's known about when critics' reviews arrive.

Questions readers ask

Will Rockstar take down GTA 6 spoiler videos?
It can. Rockstar's policy on posting footage of its games, last updated in January 2025, lists videos of a game's ending, edited compilations of cutscenes or plot dialogue, and other big story reveals among the posts that would get a takedown notice. Rockstar hasn't said how it will enforce that for GTA 6.
Can you post GTA 6 cutscenes on YouTube?
As part of a longer video, yes. The policy says cutscenes are fine inside a larger playthrough or a narrated Let's Play, but videos of the cutscenes on their own will be removed.
Did Rockstar announce a new GTA 6 spoiler policy?
No. The rules come from Rockstar's general video policy, which covers all its games and was last updated on Jan. 10, 2025, according to LibertyCity.net. Rockstar hasn't made a new statement about GTA 6 videos.
Who do you ask if a GTA 6 video counts as a spoiler?
Rockstar's policy says to email copyright@take2games.com if you're unsure whether what you want to post is a spoiler.
