Is that Kodak Black in GTA 6? What Rockstar's new screenshot shows, and what's confirmed

A man in Rockstar's Launch Gallery wears an 1800 pendant lettered Golden Acres, the Pompano Beach projects where Kodak Black grew up. Rockstar's description of the picture names no one.

A young man with wicks, face tattoos, a grill and a large octagonal pendant sits in a nightclub between two women, a cup in his hand, as hands throw money in the foreground.
Rockstar Games

One of the 39 screenshots Rockstar Games released on Nov. 5 has Miami asking whether Kodak Black is in Grand Theft Auto VI. The man at the center of Vice City 25 has wicks, face tattoos, a grill and a heavy, iced-out pendant reading 1800, and fans online named the Pompano Beach rapper within hours.

Rockstar hasn't. Its description of the picture doesn't name him or anyone else in it, and we found no comment from Kodak Black. Miami New Times, which wrote it up on Nov. 6, called it a case of "that sure looks like Kodak" rather than a casting announcement.

What the screenshot shows

Rockstar's text describes a young man with wicks, face tattoos, a large chain, rings and a watch, surrounded by women in a nightclub, with hands throwing money in the foreground. That's all it says about him.

Rockstar's full-size original is 3,840 pixels wide, and on it more of the pendant can be read than at the sizes most sites show:

  • The middle reads 1800, with a rifle along one side.
  • The edge reads Golden across the top and Acres along the bottom.
  • The line under 1800 isn't legible, even at full size.

The cup in his hand has a logo with a red heart between a J and an H. In GTA 6, a Jack of Hearts sign glows over a strip club in Rockstar's screenshots of Boobie Ike, but Rockstar doesn't say where this picture was taken. Miami New Times reads the cup as a wink at King of Diamonds, a Miami strip club.

Why fans think it's him

  • Golden Acres is the public housing project in Pompano Beach, about 35 miles north of Miami, where Kodak Black grew up, FOX 35 Orlando and a 2014 interview with Passion of the Weiss report.
  • The 1800 piece. In 2018 his Instagram showed an "1800 Block" chain his jeweler was making, a tribute to his block and to Golden Acres, VladTV reported.
  • The rest. Fans also point to the wicks, the grill and the face tattoos, including one between the eyebrows that Miami New Times singles out.

Of these, the pendant is the most specific clue, since its lettering names a real place tied to him. Even so, a chain that copies a real one isn't the same as a role in the game.

What Rockstar has said about Kodak Black

Rupert Humphries, Rockstar's senior vice president of narrative, told Dazed that the team loves Miami music, and he named Kodak Black and Sexyy Red among the city's recent artists. He didn't say either is in the game, as our story on the Dazed feature explains.

His music has turned up, though. Rolling Stone identified his song "Skrilla" among the music in An Extended Look, the 26-minute video Rockstar released on Aug. 27, alongside Sexyy Red and Tay Keith's "Pound Town." Rockstar hasn't published a song list for that video, and none of the 18 songs in its radio station previews is his.

Not confirmed

Posts on X have called him confirmed for GTA 6, some saying Rockstar recreated his chain. Nothing from Rockstar, Take-Two or Kodak Black says that. The man in the picture could be a cameo, a character drawn from Miami's rap scene or a look-alike, and only Rockstar can say which.

GTA 6 comes out Nov. 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We'll update this story if Rockstar or Kodak Black says anything before then, and after launch with what we see in the game. The rest of the Nov. 5 pictures are in our Launch Gallery story, and our Is it true? page checks other claims about the game.
